Questions
Where do I get the password?
From the person who encrypted the file, ideally over a different channel than the file itself. encryptor does not store passwords, so we cannot send or recover one for you.
What does the typing error message mean?
Version 3 passwords contain 2 check characters, so encryptor notices when a character was mistyped. Check each character of the password carefully and try again.
Can I open files from version 2?
Yes. Files from encryptor version 2 still decrypt with the password chosen at the time, and if a version 2 file is incomplete, encryptor detects it and tells you.
Is my file uploaded?
No, the file stays on your device and is decrypted right in your browser. Neither the file nor the password is ever sent to our server or anywhere else.
Do I get the original file name back?
Yes. The original name is stored encrypted inside the file and restored on decryption, and any invisible or misleading characters in it are removed first.
